So what is ‘GivingTuesday’?

Many of us are aware of the shopping sales and events that take place every year at the end of November, it’s hard not to with all the commercials, advertising and emails. But there’s a new event in November that happens after all the sale are done, it is called GivingTuesday.

GivingTuesday is not about shopping or a good sale, but is a “global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday”1 and Cyber Monday. “GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and generosity of people around the world to brig bout real change in their communities.”1

The Junior League of Toronto (JLT) and their mission tie directly into what GivingTuesday is all about. The organizations mission is tied to “improving communities through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.”2 In November alone the JLT held two community events; The Tea to help Teens (TTHT): benefiting youth living in shelters throughout the GTA, and the Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI): raising funds to increase awareness and help end the stigma around mental health.

This is a group of trained civic and community leaders looking to create a lasting and meaningful impact in their community.

If you are looking for an volunteer organization to support this GivingTuesday, the JLT LBDI campaign is open until December 1st or donations can be made directly to the league.
