On October 7, 2019, eighty JLT members and friends enjoyed a beautiful fall afternoon at the Donalda Club. The Fall Fandango and Fun Lunch, organized by Cathy Labbett and Lynne Cook, was a wonderful kick off to 2019-2020. Attendees had a chance to do some fall shopping, try new makeup trends, and learn how to use “illusion” to make the most of one’s body type from fashion consultant Joan Stewart. Following a delicious lunch, members watched a lively and colourful fashion show, presented by Karen Piper of Peppertree Classics.
During lunch, Diane Guiney gave a brief introduction to the JLT’s new community pilot, Got your Back, which supports victims of Human Sex Trafficking (“HST”). After her talk, a backpack was circulated and $600 was donated to support this new initiative.
One of the goals of the JLT’s new Strategic Plan is to engage 30% of Sustaining members in JLT activities. Currently, Sustainers are helping with evening programming, such as art and yoga classes, for youth on the Early Psychosis Unit at CAMH, in partnership with the Gifts of Light program. The new community pilot program mentioned above also has sustainer representation. Sustainers also sit on the JLT Board, and the Headquarters Ad Hoc and Finance Teams. There are so many ways to be engaged – Done in a Days, training sessions, fundraisers, social events, and bridge – to name a few. Let’s exceed that goal, while learning, connecting, and having fun! After all, the Harvard Study on Adult Development which is almost 80 years old, has supported the notion that embracing community, in its many forms, helps us live longer, and be happier.
