SEED GRANT CRITERIA

Seed grants shall:

● be given only to registered charities (per CRA guidelines);
● be given in priority for initiatives supporting “Advancing women confronting adversity” and “Empowering women to succeed”;
● fund new and innovative initiatives, or the expansion of existing successful programs, that address a community need and that require quick start-up funds;
● be given in priority for initiatives that would become self-sustaining;
● be given in priority for initiatives that have a self-help component;
● require the benefiting charity to publicly acknowledge the JLT’s support for the initiative (i.e., in a newsletter, annual report, and/or social media);
● ensure recipients are committed to similar DEI&B values as JLT;
● not be given in respect of initiatives that require JLT volunteers;
● be given in priority to initiatives that have a reasonable prospect of attracting ongoing funding after the seed grant is exhausted;
● not be given to a charity that has spent an unreasonably high percentage of funds on administrative costs;
● not be given to a charity more than once every two years; and,
● not be spent on: – ongoing salaries or overhead (except where the amount is nominal and directly related to the new initiative); – ongoing operational expenses; – fundraising initiatives; – sectarian religious initiatives; – partisan political initiatives; – scholarships or endowments; – attending conferences, workshops, or training programs.
